5 A Day

5 A Day is the name for a number of programs in various countries, such as United States, Great Britain and New Zealand to encourage the consumption of at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day, following requests by the World Health Organization.

The aim of 5 A Day is to increase awareness of the need to eat more fruit and vegetables. This provides a focus for different organisations to promote fruit and vegetables using a variety of activities including public relations.

Eating a variety of fruit and vegetables, as shown in Food Pyramid model,  gives you plenty of vitamins and minerals. Many of them are naturally high in folic acid, vitamin C and potassium. They are also a good source of fibre and antioxidants.

The recommendation of five servings per day is seen as a minimum requirement for good health, and can be easily achieved drinking Fruit Smoothie or Green Smoothie every day. Current recommendations are that everyone should eat at least 5 portions of a variety fruit and vegetables each day, to reduce the risks of cancer and coronary heart disease and many other chronic diseases. Specifically, three or more servings of vegetables and two or more servings of fruit. To find the perfect smoothie for you, check our Free Smoothie recipes.
