Kiwifruit
Kiwifruit is an oval fruit, about the size of a large hen’s egg. It has a fibrous, dull green-brown skin covered with short, stiff brown hairs and bright green or golden flesh with rows of small, black, edible seeds. The fruit has a soft texture and a unique flavour.
Kiwifruit is a rich source of vitamin C. It has more vitamin C than an equivalent amount of orange. It also contains vitamins A and E, potassium, magnesium, copper and phosphorous. The skin is a good source of flavonoid antioxidants. The kiwifruit seed oil contains alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid and dietary fibre.
The high content of dietary fiber helps improve diseases such as diabetes, by controlling sugar levels, and cancer color. Since fiber binds to toxic compounds and helps us expel them, it has also been proven to reduce cholesterol levels, improving cardiovascular diseases and lowering the probability of heart attacks.
Eating vitamin C-rich fruit such as kiwi has a significant protective effect against respiratory symptoms associated with asthma such as wheezing.
