Noni Juice

Noni juice is made from the fruit of the Morinda citrifolia, known as the noni tree. This tree is found today in the South Pacific, India, the Caribbean, South America and the West Indies. Noni is a tall, perennial evergreen and flowering tree shrub. It comes from a seed plant that bears a potato sized fruit with an odour that gained the nickname of the cheese fruit. The odour is unpleasant. It has been known as the vomit or cheese fruit. The bark, fruit, leaves, and seeds of this plant are all usable. Dyes can be made from the bark of the tree, skin lotions can be made from the leaves, and the fruit is used for juicing and making powdered Noni. Also, seeds can be roasted and eaten. There isn’t a part of this tree that can’t be used.

Noni juice can be beneficial for overall health, in part because the noni tree is used as a medicinal plant in the treatment of many ailments. Noni juice is made from the fruit of the tree. Noni leaves were mixed with oil; this was to treat everything from pain and inflammation, boils, gout and even ringworm. Noni fruit and leaves were crushed and then mixed together with other plants; this was used for bruises, sprains and other severe wounds. The fruit of the noni tree was used for treating internal problems such as intestinal worms. This was known as a folk remedy back in the 1930s.

The numerous health claims made in noni juice marketing are not supported by significant scientific agreement and no Noni products have achieved sufficient scientific foundation for being licensed as medicines or therapies. Noni juice also known as Tahitian Noni has become a “novel food” after safety testing, however no endorsement of health claims has been made by European Commission’s Scientific Committee.
